about
an ode to being insane and walking around philly
when i first considered a solo project in late 2017, i conceived it as a spoken word album. so though different from my greater body of work. i consider this a return to the most natal roots of denver pike.
lyrics
it's saturday afternoon, and our multitude of plans revolve around someone that's never here but will be soon.
you've made the point that we have one for each of us, so you cave to the pressure and come four, the three of us are in and off.
the conversation in the car turns in a strange direction -- westward in motion, south in tone -- and we're starting to feel it now.
suddenly, we're eleven stories up, and as we sit in the grass, we hold our stones up to those glass goliaths and look out over our city.
we warp with the clouds and move in levels, under the streets and into a future where we're lost for a little while.
and even before we find our way, when i look to you, you're nothing but smiles, and we've got nine miles to go.
two parts shake hands with being on the green RIGHT NOW
the whole damn city's in between
no one can say they're seeing what we see right now, up here
distorted and that makes it crystal clear
you've made a list of things we've missed and now we'll miss them all again, because as bright as it was in there, it's getting dark outside.
and once we reach that hollow center, we'll walk through the steam we'll soon become and pick a cardinal point to follow.
to the south, the lights are dazzling -- the reds and blues of closed-off streets -- and though briefly we'll dabble in the east, we'll soon head north once more.
i lock eyes with a backalley woman who holds a rock of her own and i decide to close my eyes.
and so we walk blindly back to the sky, determined to retrieve just one more stone.
i muse a study in self-image and note that the only ones who understand our current trajectory are the ones like that woman, and that if we're going to make it up in one piece, we're going to have to recenter first.
it's five a.m. and now we're home, and we're no longer in so deep
i'll take a shower to wash away the hours, we'll take some pills and fall asleep
